Grevilles Post Office Directory

What is this?

What is Greville's?

Back in 1872 they didn't have phone books but they did have post office directories - people had a listing so they could be found, much the same as a phone book but not all people ended up in the directory and so I suspect it was by subscription. Sands also did a directory and there were other directories at different times.

Kathy Pearson typed up the full 1872 Greville's directory over a period of about a year and sent it as hundreds of emails to a newsgroup. I collected them all.  It seemed such a shame for it to be not all together and set out nicely. So I got Kathy's permission to set them up on my website for all to see and search. I just set up the web pages - Kathy did all the hard work.

Many people have copied or used Kathy's work on their webpage - some have acknowledged that Kathy did all the work.. Rest assured that if you find a reference to Greville's 1872 Post Office directory it is 99.99% sure that Kathy Pearson typed it up for you. Send her your thanks via me or search the archives of soc.genealogy.aust+nz newsgroup and send them to Kathy.

I can take no credit for the typing - Kathy did all that - I just displayed it - which meant I copied and pasted to a web page an email for every town listed, I then formatted and set it up in a server. Kathy did all the work of typing.
